Lips meet lips and blood sings.
Fingers clasp and release,
Moving on to stroke and pet,
Playing over satiny skin:
Tweaking, fondling, exciting.
Limbs entwine, seeking closeness.
Pulses race as heat seeks release
Only to find more heat.
Cheeks, rounded and proud
Are touched, caressed. . .
Hearts seek hearts and in eyes
Two souls collide . . .
A union, a merging in love's fiery furnace
That lingers in the hereafters,
A pale echo of the exultation of ecstasy.
But all that can be endured
in the quietness of everyday;
Until the passions rise again.

For Dearest Edward

The Change

Salt in the water calls to salt in the blood
Causing surges of longing, unbearable, unrelenting.
The call ebbs and crests --
Tidal pulls on the heart and soul.
Instinct o'ertakes intellect
As the wisdom of ages untold
Urges
The Change.

Feeling the body as a foreign, awkward shell
Encaging a new-found entity
Exploding with power.
Seeking the water's fluid embrace
To cradle a shape designed for speed and aquatic ballet.

Leaving on shore what was know as man
The strife and love, causes and life,
To bask in the moment of mystic now --
At one with self and sea and earth,
Glorying in the understanding of all;
Whispered on the waves and winds. . .

Yet -- even all the enticements of
Such marine princehood
Cannot completely break the bond
Of true love and brotherhood,
Of contented communion with the one who healed --
A single beacon on shore
Guiding the way Home. . .

Edward's Lament

I had thought I'd escaped you.
You were the torment of my past --
The evil cloud that o'er me cast
A smothering blanket of black and blue.

You had withered my childhood
With the bitterest poison and pain
>From my torture you did nothing gain
But pleasure of unholy good.

So I suffered and did survive
Barely knowing I was alive
Feeling only gnawing emptiness
Where there could have been happiness.

Yet seasons change, and all men do too:
I found my chance, and it did seize.
To the seas I fled, answering her pleas,
And here I found what I ne'er knew.

Here, in the company of roughest crew
I found the meaning of love true.
My Charlie! Bringer of Delight!
Keeper of my Heart and My own Soul's Light!

What joy I've found, what bliss we share --
With him I am complete.
He has performed the greatest loving feat
And taught me how to care.

When we are together I am secure
You have no dominion when he is here. . .
And yet you linger in my mind;
Your evil poison does yet endure!

Your treachery does yet have sway
Where my tenderest thoughts do lay!
And thus until the day I die
Ever you be the cause of my cry!

So even in the midst of bliss
I shall abandon Charlie's kiss;
For you have taught me well and true
That there is but one deed I must do.

And so to purge my earthly pain
With this knife I ope' my vein
To release a flood of crimson life
And thus flee your ever present strife!

My dearest Charlie will understand
That it is best that I am gone:
For I am weak and but a pawn
Crushed 'tween his seas and your land.

So with resolve I wield this blade
Cursing you with my final breath:
Mother, bane of my life and bringer of death!
Now so be your last card played!

And Charlie, do not grieve for me
For at long last I will be free!
For you my spirit tarries in this plane
Until our souls be united again . . .
